Sikkim the land of beauty, purity, simplicity and serenity. Sikkim is known as crested land, or “Denzong” which means the valley of rice or “su” “Khim” which means new house. It is surrounded by Nepal in the west, Bhutan in the East, Tibet in the north & West Bengal in the south.

Sikkim once kingdom became the twenty second state of India on 16th May, 1975. Sikkim is divided into four districts i.e. Gangtok its capital at east, Gyalshing at west, Mangan at North and Namchi at South. Each district has significance of its own.

Despite being small state it has got tremendous amenities to provide for the tourists. It has got chilled freshness of Himalayas and Mountains. Trekkers and mountaineers would get an ample opportunity to make their trip to this small hilly state more adventurous and most memorable. one can get the privilege to visit some of the most sacred and historic rivers and lakes. Sikkim is also known for its abundance varieties of orchids and butterflies. It has varieties of 500 species of butterflies and 600 species of orchids and among this “Noble Orchid” is the state flower. Red Panda is its state animal. Flower festival goes throughout the year. People of Sikkim are very warm hearted and simple. Sikkimese community is a mixed community consists of lepcha, bhutia, nepali and others where people live in harmony, where each other respects religious sentiments of another’s and whole heartedly participates in their religious ceremonies. Languages mostly commonly spoken are Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Hindi and English. Sikkim is growing to impart more to its visitors such for those who are in love with water can go for rafting ride and for those who loves height can go for ropeway ride. Religious lover can take more advantage from monasteries with its historic and religious beliefs.

Season-Appropriate time to visit Sikkim is between March,April,May, September to December. Light woolen wears during summer and heavy woolen wears during winter is advisable.

Major Festivals which celebrate in Sikkim are- SonamLhochar, Losar,Buddha, Jayanti, Holi, Sakewa, SagaDawa, BhanuJayanti, DrukpaTsheshi, GuruRinpoches, Trungkar, Pang Lhabsol, LhababDuechen, LaxmiPuja, KagyedDance, Losoong, Nyenpa, Guzom, Tamu Lhochar, Namsoong and Maghe Sagharati etc.

Permits- For Foreign National Inner line permits is required besides their visas to visit authorized part of Sikkim.And for such required documents xerox copy of the visas and two passport size photographs, along with the permit which is valid for fifteen days and if needed one can get it extended for another fifteen days, maximum upto 60 days.For such they can obtain their permit from Tourist Information Centre at Delhi, Calcutta, Siliguri and at Rangpo. Inside Gangtok for more information one can visit Department of Sikkim Tourism, Foreign Registration Office and any recognized Tours and Travels.

For Nationals Inner Line Permit is required to visit restricted areas from the Police Department (Check Post) for places such as Tsongmo, Nathula & Yumthang through recognized Travel Agencies (TAAS).

Food- One can enjoy any kind of food whether it be Chinese,South Indian and Off course the local cuisine if any one would like to try.

Destination-To reach Gangtok by Air the nearest Airport is Bagdogra and if by Train from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station,(NJP), Siliguri. Private Buses or State National Transport (SNT) will be available from Siliguri.

Tsongmo Lake-spectacular lake situated 40 km away from town,situated at an altitude of 12,400 ft.

Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple (Baba Mandir)- situated between Nathula and Jelep-la pass,drinking water here is believed wish yielding.

Nathula Pass-border between India and China,56 kms away from Gangtok,situated at an altitude of 14,200 ft.Indian National can only visit with special permission from the concerned dept.i.e also for 5 days in a week (Wednesday to Sunday).

Enchey Monastery - 200 years old Nyingmapa Gumpa, built in around 1840, situated 3 kms away from the town,annually on January “Chaam” or masked dance is performed with great celebration.

Flower Festival - walking distance from the town situated below ridge park,besides White Hall.

Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms-Place where one can enjoy the creativity of handmade arts and crafts of the local people. Items are meant for sale too, open on Monday to Saturday.

Do Drul Chorten (stupa)- built by Trullshi Rinpoche,in 1945,unique feature of this stupa is that it has 108 mani Lhakar prayer wheels, situated at deorali on the way to Gangtok.

Namgyal Research Institute of Tibetology-Institute has unique collection of manuscripts and other valuable collection of arts.Institute is popularly known as Centre of Buddhist Religion, Library and Museum open to the public on working days from 10 A.m to 4 P.M, closed on sundays and on govt. holidays.

Saramsa Garden - 14 kms away from Gangtok ideal place for picnic etc.

Rumtek Dharma Chakra-Monastery is the seat of the Gyalwang Karmapa Kagyu Order situated at 24 kms away from Gangtok,the centre has most unique religious scriptures and religious objects.

Tashi View Point-Point from where one can get the glimpse of graceful peaks of Mt.Khang-Chen-Dzonga and Mt.Siniolchu,8 kms away from the town.

Ganesh Tok -7 km away from Gangtok,where one can offer prayers to idol Ganesha and can enjoy the view of Gangtok.

Hanuman Tok - 11 km away from Gangtok.

Menmecho Lake - situated 20 km ahead from Tsongmo Lake,2 km from Baba Mandir. It is also known as the source of the Rangpo-Chu.

Himalayan Zoological Park - situated opposite to Ganesh Tok,also known as Bulbuley,8 km away from Gangtok town,covering an area of 205 hectares. Here one can catch the glimpse of wild animal such as red pandas,barking beer,spotted bear & other animals of Sikkim etc.

Khecheopalri Lake-considered as sacred lake,significant belief of this lake is that birds do not permit not even a single leaf to float on the lake.

Tashiding Monastery-known as ‘Thong-Wa-Rang-Dol” for its holy Chorten.Place blessed by Guru Padmashambhava,famous for “Bhumchu’,situated at an altitude of 1470 M.

Yuksam-First capital of Sikkim,situated at an altitude of 1780 M,place pleasant for trekkers and mountaineers.

Khang-Chen-Dzonza Water Fall-To catch the glimpse of this beautiful water fall one have to take hours drive from pelling.

Singhore Bridge/Uttarey-The highest bridge 25 kms away from Pemayangtse.

Pemayangtse Monastery-means perfect sublime lotus,2 km away from Pelling.

Varsey-One can take a magnificient views of Mountains and ideal for trekkers,situated at an altitude of 10,000 ft.

Dentam- takes an one hour drive from Pelling.Alpine Gouda Cheese is manufactured here.

Hee-Bermiok- This place is famous for Sri Janga Caves,and ideal for mountain biking etc.One and half km away from Pelling.

Gurudongmar Lake-It is an sacred lake, milky in colour and is blessed by Guru Padmasambhava.

Yumthang-149 km away from Gangtok,situated at an altitude of 11,800 ft has rich reserve of flowers, one can enjoy snow falls during season time.Shingba Rhododendron Santuary has twenty four species of Rhododendrons.

Yumthang Hot Springs- Mostly famous for its curative and healing power, local people dominates this place during winter, situated at an altitude of 12,000 ft.

Kabi Longtsok- place where treaty of blood brotherhood between Chiefs of Lepchas and Bhutias was signed,17 km away from Gangtok.

Chungthang- has large varieties of orchids and wildlife,enroute to Yumthang,95 km away from Gangtok.

Tumlong Palace ruins- was the third capital of Sikkim,situated below the Phodong and Labrang Monastery, remained as capital for almost ninety years.

Phodong Monastery-40 km away from Gangtok,belongs to Karugpa sect, about a km up from the North Sikkim Highway,built by Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal in the 18th Century.

Phur Tsa Chu-is the hot spring,half an hour drive from Legship.

Flower Festival-held annually,rare species of orchids can be seen on the event.
